The Clerk of Courts prepares and maintains the records for the Criminal Division of the Court of Common Pleas. The Clerk signs and affixes the Seal of the Courts to all writs and processes, administers oaths and affirmations, and assumes custody of the seal and records of the Court. The Clerk certifies and distributes orders of the Court.

In 2017, a total of 1187 juvenile cases were reported for every 100,000 people age 10 to adulthood in the jurisdiction of Berks County. Of that total, 61% of those proceedings were delinquencies which equaled 720 court cases. Another 39% were dependency cases that accounted for 467 of the juvenile cases. A lot of counties, including, Berks County, are focusing on family health and relationships rather than punishment for juvenile crimes.

The Courts of Common Pleas are the general trial courts of Pennsylvania. They are organized into 60 judicial districts. Most districts follow the geographic boundaries of counties, but seven of the districts are comprised of two counties. Each district has from one to 93 judges and has a president judge and a court administrator.

Yes. Section 3101 of the Probate, Estates, and Fiduciaries Code extends the authority to any savings institution to release up to $10,000 to family members with an original death certificate and receipted funeral bill. Life insurance companies may release certain monies under $11,000 to named family members rather than to the estate.
